The Testament of Ann Lee'.
THE TESTAMENT OF ANN LEE is a captivating portrait of early Shaker life that excels when its musical numbers deliver euphoric highs to match the characters’ passion. Seyfried is great, though one wish her role was more complex. Crafts are great. An engrossing spectacle. pic.twitter.com/UaOS47nm85

THE TESTAMENT OF ANN LEE is a gorgeous, powerful film that will move believers & non-believers alike. Amanda Seyfried gives a committed, zealous performance, and Daniel Blumberg's music (adapted from Shaker hymns) is hauntingly beautiful. Amazing musical numbers, great choreo. pic.twitter.com/LKLKCf547M

‘THE TESTAMENT OF ANN LEE’ REVIEW: Mona Fastvold's ambitious third feature portrays the pious Shaker founder's life as a full-scale musical, which sounds like a ironic stunt — but it's through song and dance that the film expresses itself most honestly, inventively and movingly.… pic.twitter.com/CANT4F9vmZ

#Venezia82 The Testament of Ann Lee converted me. I wanted to get up from my seat, follow the choreography and start singing with the Shakers and especially with her, Mother Ann. Fastvold crafted a splendid, gloomy piece which Seyfried brightened with a million suns.

AMANDA SEYFRIED delivers a transformative, bold & spectacular performance as Mother Ann Lee. She showcases a meticulously crafted 18th-century Manchester accent & conveys the pain & conviction of a visionary religious leader. She’s truly magnetic. #TheTestamentOfAnnLee #Venezia82 pic.twitter.com/nS4UEbRQdh

#TheTestamentOfAnnLee, the most divisive film of this year’s festival, is an enchanting spectacle that delivers euphoric highs and frustrating lows. Stunning visuals are met with pitch-perfect direction as Amanda Seyfried transcends into a career-best performance. #Venezia82
