Ni en Telluide, ni en Venecia, ni en Toronto. La primera proyección de 'Una batalla tras otra' ha tenido lugar en la sede del Sindicato de Directores en Los Ángeles. Tras ella, Paul Thomas Anderson ha protagonizado una sesión de preguntas y respuestas moderada nada menos que por Steven Spielberg. "¡Qué película tan increíble, Dios mío. Hay más acción en la primera hora que en cualquier otra película que hayas dirigido. Todo es realmente increíble". Esa ha sido la reacción de Spielberg ante esta adaptación libre de 'Vineland' (Thomas Pynchon, 1990) que llega a los cines el 26 de septiembre. "Nunca he visto una película con un tono tan cercano al de 'Telefóno rojo', de Stanley Kubrick. Aporta una especie de comedia absurda, que se toma muy en serio, porque refleja en gran medida lo que sucede hoy, a diario, en todo el país". Queda claro que a Spielberg le ha entusiasmado lo nuevo de PTA pero no está solo en esto: las primeras reacciones que pueden leerse en redes dejan claro que estamos ante una de las mejores películas del año.
En cuanto al reparto, hay buenos comentarios para Leonardo DiCaprio y todavía mejores para Sean Penn, que construye un villano memorable que huele a nominación. Por lo que se refiere a las actrices, la duda que podía haber acerca de quién sería la secundaria más destacada de la película (Regina Hall, Teyana Taylor o incluso Chase Infiniti) parece haberse resuelto: Taylor es el caballo ganador.

The fall fests didn’t move the Oscar needle much, but ONE BATTLE AFTER ANOTHER certainly will. Paul Thomas Anderson’s latest could be nominated across the board (Sean Penn & Teyana Taylor are standouts) and finally nab PTA the top Oscar. Now, to see if Warner Bros can open it…
