Julia Roberts is sensational in AFTER THE HUNT (a real Osage County type of performance 👍) and Luca Guadagnino shoots the hell out of the talky script, but the film is so low energy and the screenplay too full of intellectual posturing to truly be as riveting as it should. pic.twitter.com/AB2Zarltt3

Luca Guadagnino’s AFTER THE HUNT is a challenging and purposefully uncomfortable watch. It offers an interesting tale of perspective, truth and accountability that feels very much of our times. However, I wouldn’t say I walked away from it feeling wowed, like I usually do with… pic.twitter.com/YN3AV5bhIT

#AfterTheHunt is a flawed but bravely nuanced analysis of truth & perspective. It’s uncomfortable & thematically riveting but convoluted in integrating ideas & characters, frustratingly holding back its powerful themes due to its sense of self-importance.

Stuhlbarg innocent. pic.twitter.com/ydPPY9NwXx
Guadagnino's AFTER THE HUNT is a film of talking points and empty slogans, one that turns characters into caricatures and in so doing cheapens the horrific drama at its centre. My first #Venezia82 review for @TheFilmStage: https://t.co/By2pHHOMHx

AFTER THE HUNT: As a major Luca fan it pains me to say his (not quite) Me Too movie is a staid disappointment. Grasps at several intriguing ideas but rarely follows through. Julia Roberts is tremendous but everyone else comes off as an intellectual caricature pic.twitter.com/UX531AivR2

AFTER THE HUNT is a huge disappointment, unfortunately. It lacks Guadagnino’s signature style, and the script is way too convoluted and verbose to make an impact. Julia Roberts is fantastic, Andrew Garfield and Ayo Edebiri not so much #Venezia82 pic.twitter.com/GpSB5aYh5m
