in a shock to no one @RealGDT has crafted a fantastic film noir that pulled me in and didn't let go till the final frame. Cate Blanchett eats up every scene she's in and the production design and cinematography are 👏

No weak links. Will def see it again.#NightmareAlley pic.twitter.com/9d6ivL8K6c
NIGHTMARE ALLEY features exceptional crafts and compelling performances, but is often bogged down by a lethargic pace. Del Toro tries to elevate the blunt storytelling that is inconsistently engaging, but has its strides. Cooper is a strong lead. Blanchett a devilish delight. pic.twitter.com/M4XBVZPNUj

Guillermo del Toro’s #NightmareAlley is haunting & seductive in the way it draws you into its story about a man lost in his own long con. Steadily unsettling & wildly gripping by the end - the scenes between Bradley Cooper & Cate Blanchett are fantastic. Deliciously old fashioned pic.twitter.com/pcyYSGZX3U

While NIGHTMARE ALLEY is visually and technically gorgeous it felt a bit too controlled and staid, missing Guillermo del Toro’s usual flair and perverseness (at least until the end of the 3rd act). More than a bit disappointing. #NightmareAlley

Cate and Bradley Cooper are electric in Nightmare Alley. There is one seen that is old school Hollywood magic. GDT has crafted an impressive moral tale that often soars. The pacing hinders it at times and boy is it dark. But CATE.

NIGHTMARE ALLEY is a slow-burn, atmospheric noir with impeccably awe-inspiring craftsmanship from Guillermo del Toro. The first half’s pacing drags but once Cate Blanchett enters the second half the heat cranks up considerably. Bradley Cooper’s final moments are utterly haunting. pic.twitter.com/DHanroa6uI

#NightmareAlley has impeccable below the line craftsmanship (sound is among the year’s best), a nice moody atmosphere courtesy of Del Toro, and excellent turns from Cooper & Blanchett. A bit too slow-burn for its own good though, and rings emotionally hollow.

Guillermo del Toro continues to wow as a filmmaker. Nightmare Alley is brilliantly constructed & a much different kind of film than what we are used to seeing from del Toro. He takes a iconic classic and makes it anew. Terrific performances across the board too. #NightmareAlley pic.twitter.com/W8nmDcDnuu

NIGHTMARE ALLEY: my full review will be up soon but the important thing is that Cate Blanchett and Rooney Mara only have one scene together (in which they barely interact), buuuut they're basically styled to look like Carol and Therese are on a date in 1941. so it's a mixed bag.

There are two movies within #NightmareAlley. One makes Bradley Cooper a long overdue Oscar winner. The other puts another statue on the shelf of visionary director Guillermo del Toro. Could be one, none or neither for the Academy. At minimum, production design race ended tonight. pic.twitter.com/Eb0O7tKnM4

Everything and nothing happens in #NightmareAlley. Would’ve been complete bust, save for the last 20 mins when things finally got entertaining, and a shockingly good score. Cooper mostly flat, but is given a killer final scene. Bad move putting this in the heart of awards season. pic.twitter.com/kN1d09zJyv

Nightmare Alley is more horror than noir. Expertly done, dark and sinister - suspenseful, gruesome and very like, I thought, a graphic novel in feel. It is a crafts dream. I need to sit with it for a while, though. It will take time to process.
