Festival de Venecia: Angelina Jolie quiere volver a los Oscar
El Festival de Venecia echó a andar el pasado jueves y ya ha celebrado la premiere de uno de los platos fuertes de su programación: la película con la que Pablo Larraín cierra su trilogía dedicada a mujeres célebres de la historia. Lo que comenzó con 'Jackie' y siguió con 'Spencer' termina con 'Maria', la película en la que Angelina Jolie da vida a la cantante de ópera Maria Callas. Si Natalie Portman y Kirsten Stewart consiguieron nominaciones al Oscar por sus respectivas interpretaciones, es muy probable que Angelina siga el mismo camino. La ganadora de la estatuilla por 'Inocencia interrumpida' recibe los mayores elogios de una película que no ha generado tanto entusiasmo como el trabajo de su protagonista. 'Maria' ha debutado con un 70% en Rotten Tomatoes y un 63 en Metacritic.

Maria is a superficial libretto in search of real meaning (similar to Spencer in that sense), but Angelina Jolie finds a riveting harmony with Maria Callas, a woman she understands in her bones. (similar to Kristen Stewart and Princess Diana).

Disappointed by MARIA, which is stiffly in thrall to its subject in a way JACKIE and SPENCER weren’t: Larraín’s humour and subversive streak are better suited to blanker, less brilliant canvases. Ed Lachman is having a field day; everyone else is determined *not* to be operatic.
