Is This Thing On? is a small film from Bradley Cooper, mixing divorce dramedy with stand up. Handheld and intimate, it ultimately follows a familiar path, though Will Arnett and Laura Dern are a winning duo. The middle has the most fun to offer.#IsThisThingOn #NYFF #NYFF63 pic.twitter.com/MDzwEgqn8V

I think IS THIS THING ON? is Bradley Cooper’s best film to date. It trades the high production value and technical craft from his previous films for a much more handheld, low budget in-the-moment filmmaking, and I think it’s all for the better. Will Arnett is phenomenal. #NYFF63 pic.twitter.com/UQbfZ8eZDk

IS THIS THING ON?: Overly sentimental and only mildly funny, dialed down take on the divorce comedy. Will Arnett is solidly endearing, and there’s a fun, small Bradley Cooper performance, but the film is uneven and a bit too familiar. #NYFF63 pic.twitter.com/740I1JyCdn

IS THIS THING ON? is a more modest directorial effort from Bradley Cooper, but it’s no less effective as he draws natural and honest performances from his cast, most notably Will Arnett, who delivers a career-best turn as a father trying out stand-up comedy as a form of therapy… pic.twitter.com/Mk7mwvbDp4

Full disclosure: I did some work on this movie, but I looooove IS THIS THING ON? I continue to be thrilled by Bradley Cooper's artistic choices, directorial vision and storytelling verve. It's difficult to make something this hopeful that still embraces the mess. It lands. pic.twitter.com/ONL6r4Pktz

I was a skeptic of Bradley Cooper tackling the world of stand-up. I could not be happier to be proven wrong. Is This Thing On? Is a raw, tender, emotionally vulnerable portrait of middle aged relationships and expressing one’s self. Arnett should be in the Oscar race! #NYFF63 pic.twitter.com/4JlHZiiExv

Is This Thing On? is wonderful. A funny authentic look at how a lack of communication can bring down a marriage. Will Arnett and Laura Dern give beautifully vulnerable performances, captured with great intimacy through Bradley Cooper's direction. This thing is so on! #NYFF63 pic.twitter.com/C8ePE7deDg

I LOVED “IS THIS THING ON?,” the 3rd film directed by BRADLEY COOPER & his best movie yet! So genuine & lived-in, featuring a superb screenplay & stellar performances from LAURA DERN & (especially!) @arnettwill, who gives a revelatory & game-changing performance! An absolute GEM! pic.twitter.com/keJoc74aau

Is This Thing On? is a sweet, funny, and very sexy look at a man rediscovering what love and marriage means. Bradley Cooper’s subtler directorial choices allows the script’s humor to breathe beautifully. Will Arnett’s blend of comic timing and bone-deep ache is stunning.
