THE HUMANS: This talky Thanksgiving drama set in a Chinatown apartment somehow generates more dread than a horror movie. Acting's good all around, but it's the way Stephen Karam uses space that makes this impressive, it doesn't feel beholden to how it was staged as a play #tiff21 pic.twitter.com/jILYeBpFm2

THE HUMANS has an excellent ensemble of performances and some really smart dark humor. The biggest surprise is how strong Stephen Karam’s presence as a director is. He paints an off-kilter portrait of a family and what bubbles beneath the surface #TIFF21 pic.twitter.com/162RDUeq5p

#TheHumans is my favourite film of #TIFF21 so far! Loved how they managed to translate this play yet did it’s own thing with the cinematic format. It’s directed very beautifully and has amazing performances and cinematography. Probably in contention for the peoples choice award! pic.twitter.com/w7hl0bp5Qm

Paranoia and existential dread on the most intimate level. A wonderful balance of humor and nerve wracking tension all through an enmeshed family. A perfect cast. Richard Jenkins is superb. A lot to process. East coasters are going to be hit hard by this one#TIFF21 pic.twitter.com/xcJatqG6rs
No one told me THE HUMANS was a horror film! Stephen Karam’s patience & staging brings this to life as he makes the run down New York City apartment its own psychologically tormenting character amongst an excellent ensemble. Phenomenal work from Richard Jenkins & Jayne Houdyshell pic.twitter.com/S3l3Y9Mzlm

THE HUMANS: Stephen Karam adapts his Tony-winning play into the first true horror film about 9/11, complete with a battering ram of harrowingly existential jump-scares. starts stiff, ends with a wallop. Richard Jenkins at his best.

my #TIFF21 review: https://t.co/6PfNNa0ynV pic.twitter.com/v5tPhzi4Nz
THE HUMANS: A beautifully shot single-set family dramedy that takes place in a run down Manhattan apartment over Thanksgiving. The film features amazing performances by the ensemble led by Richard Jenkins. But the person who stole the show for me was Amy Schumer.
