Olivia Colman is once again incredible in Empire of Light. I'm not sure she's ever given a bad performance. Michael Ward and Toby Jones are also superb in a movie I liked more than loved. My #Telluride review:https://t.co/GtKOnXHcXT

i suppose there are several reasons why people might see Empire of Light as Sam Mendes' Belfast, but the most relevant one is that both movies are rather bad.

Empire of Light has some big ideas but the script lacks focus. It tries to tackle way too much but even though not all of it works, the actors elevate the material. Olivia Colman is superb as expected but Micheal Ward steals the show. He is phenomenal in this. #EmpireOfLight pic.twitter.com/QrqPyrConr

EMPIRE OF LIGHT is Sam Mendes’ personal & loving ode to how cinema connects us all despite how different we all are. Olivia Colman is extraordinary & her chemistry with Micheal Ward is warm & tender. Vibrant cinematography & a gorgeously serene score that will fill your heart. pic.twitter.com/SrTohR1PUy

EMPIRE OF LIGHT is more than just a love letter to cinema (but oh, is it), and we get a gorgeous performance from Micheal Ward and another broiling, barn-burner one from Olivia Colman. #TellurideFilmFestival pic.twitter.com/kXBoZTFMkj

Well I just saw what will probably be my favorite film of the year, Sam Mendes’ sublime Empire of Light. It’s a major wow. #telluridefilmfestival

#EmpireOfLight isn't just a love letter to cinema. It's an ode to the house that holds our most cherished artform. The movie theater is our sanctuary and it's power is felt in every frame. Loved it. #TellurideFilmFestival pic.twitter.com/6BKq52G15i

Empire of Light is every bit as magical as the Telluride crowd are reporting. Olivia Colman has never been better - and boy, what an achievement that is - and Micheal Ward announces himself as a major talent. My heart also belongs to Toby Jones, and Mendes’s raw truth-telling.

After a slow build, EMPIRE OF LIGHT (written & directed by SAM MENDES) takes hold & casts a spell as an engaging and very well-acted love story. Teeming with melancholy, longing & connection over love of cinema. OLIVIA COLEMAN & MICHAEL WARD are terrific. #Telluride pic.twitter.com/DuIeL7LJNV

Olivia Colman is—even by her standards—astonishing in Mendes’s strange, sweet EMPIRE OF LIGHT, and is matched by a magical discovery in Micheal Ward. #Telluride
