George Clooney recibirá el premio honorífico del American Film Institute

El American Film Institute (AFI), la organización encargada de preservar la identidad del cine norteamericano, ha anunciado que George Clooney recibirá el 46º premio honorífico de la institución. El actor y cineasta ganador de dos Oscars será homenajeado en una gala especial que la ciudad de Los Ángeles acogerá el próximo 7 de junio y que será emitida en diferido por el canal TNT.

George Clooney es la única personalidad del mundo del cine que ha conseguido ser nominado en seis categorías distintas de los Oscar (Mejor Película, Mejor Director, Mejor Actor, Mejor Actor Secundario, Mejor Guión Original y Mejor Guión Adaptado). Su primera aparición en los Oscar fue en 2005 (el año de su premio interpretativo por 'Syriana' y también el de 'Buenas noches y buena suerte') y la última fue en 2012 (cuando ganó su segunda estatuilla como productor de 'Argo'). Este año, Clooney cumplirá un lustro alejado de los premios de la Academia puesto que su última película como director ('Suburbicon') se ha convertido en una de las mayores decepciones de la temporada.

El Life Achievement Award del AFI es un galardón que tiene muy poco que envidiar al Oscar honorífico. La nómina de ganadores de este premio quita el hipo: John Ford, Orson Welles, Alfred Hitchock, James Stewart, Robert De Niro, Clint Eastwood, Elizabeth Taylor... Las últimas personalidades que fueron homenajeadas por el AFI fueron Diane Keaton, John Williams, Steve Martin y Jane Fonda.

Diane Keaton recibirá el premio honorífico del American Film Institute

El American Film Institute (AFI), la organización encargada de preservar la identidad del cine norteamericano, ha anunciado que Diane Keaton recibirá el 45º premio honorífico de la institución. La ganadora del Oscar por la inolvidable 'Annie Hall' será homenajeada en una gala especial que la ciudad de Los Ángeles acogerá el próximo 8 de junio. El canal TNT emitirá una ceremonia que contará entre sus invitados a muchos de los grandes nombres de Hollywood de las últimas décadas.

"Diane Keaton es una de nuestras actrices más queridas. Incomparable en su dominio del drama y la comedia, ella ha conseguido ganarse el corazón del mundo una y otra vez creando personajes que unían tanto fuerza como vulnerabilidad. Su carrera como directora y productora es una prueba más de su pasión por el arte y sus múltiples talentos", afirmó un miembro de la junta directiva del AFI.

'Rojos', 'La habitación de Marvin' y 'Cuando menos te lo esperas' son las otras nominaciones al Oscar de una actriz que ha conseguido optar a los premios de la Academia en cuatro décadas consecutivas, un récord al alcance de pocos y que sólo ha sido superado por su antigua pareja Jack Nicholson. Tampoco hay que olvidar sus colaboraciones con Woody Allen, incluyendo clásicos como 'Manhattan' y 'Misteriososo asesinato en Manhattan'. Keaton acaba de poner voz a uno de los personajes de 'Buscando a Dory' y estrenará en los próximos meses 'The Young Pope', la serie que Paolo Sorrentino ha desarrollado para HBO.

El año pasado John Williams hizo historia al convertirse en el primer compositor tal homenaje. En años anteriores, los ganadores del prestigioso galardón incluyeron nombres como Jane Fonda, Steve Martin, Mel Brooks, Shirley MacLaine y Morgan Freeman.

John Williams recibió ayer el premio honorífico del American Film Institute. El veterano músico, una leyenda viva del cine con un palmarés envidiable (5 Oscars, 22 Grammys, 4 Emmys, 4 Globos de Oro...) se ha convertido en el primer compositor que obtiene este reconocimiento en los 44 años de historia del premio. En su discurso de agradecimiento, John Williams citó a otros grandes maestros de la música del cine que según su criterio se merecían el premio más que él (entre ellos Bernard Herrmann y Alfred Newman).

El Life Achievement Award del AFI es un galardón que tiene muy poco que envidiar al Oscar honorífico. La nómina de ganadores de este premio quita el hipo: John Ford, Orson Welles, Alfred Hitchock, James Stewart, Robert De Niro, Clint Eastwood, Elizabeth Taylor... El año pasado, el premio recayó en el cómico Steve Martin.

La ceremonia de entrega tuvo lugar en el Dolby Theatre, el teatro que acoje los Oscars de manera ininterrumpida desde 2002. El encargado de introducir a Williams fue, como no podía ser de otra manera, Steven Spielberg. Harrison Ford, Seth MacFarlane, Drew Barrymore, Bryce Dallas Howard, Kobe Bryant, Tom Hanks y J.J. Abrams también subieron al escenario para rendir tributo a la segunda persona con más nominaciones al Oscar de la historia. La ceremonia será emitida por TNT el próximo 15 de junio.

Sorpresas en el top 11 anual del American Film Institute (AFI)

El American Film Institute acaba de publicar la lista de las once películas que forman lo mejor del cine norteamericano en este 2014. A pesar de incluir un título más de lo habitual, no aparecen en la lista 'Perdida', 'El Gran Hotel Budapest' y 'A Most Violent Year' (la ganadora del premio de la National Board of Review). Tampoco figuran en el ranking 'La teoría del todo' o 'Mr. Turner', pero en Universal y Sony no tienen motivos para alarmarse: al igual pasa con los Independent, sólo pueden ser reconocidas producciones norteamericanas.

Quienes sí han entrado a pesar de no estar entre las favoritas son 'Into the Woods', 'Invencible (Unbroken)'- desaparecidas hasta ahora en la temporada de premios salvo en los premios de mejor reparto - o 'Nightcrawler', la segunda mejor película del año para la revista Empire y una de las sensaciones de las nominaciones de los Independent Spirit Awards.

Los "line ups" de la Academia y el American Film Institute nunca coinciden en su totalidad, pero desde 2010 sólo 'Dallas Buyers Club' y 'Tan fuerte tan cerca' llegaron a los Oscar sin estar en el AFI antes.

Jane Fonda recibirá el premio honorífico del American Film Institute

El American Film Institute acaba de hacer público que Jane Fonda recibirá el 42ª premio a toda una carrera del AFI, uno de los galardones honoríficos más prestigiosos de la industria. "Jane Fonda forma parte de la realeza del cine americano. Tras ser introducida al mundo como la hija de Henry Fonda, el mundo vió como ella encontraba su propia voz y creaba su propio camino", explicaba en un comunicado del dirigente de la organización, Howard Stringer. La actriz recibirá el galardón en una gala llena de estrellas el 5 de junio de 2014. Días más tarde el evento será emitido por el canal TNT.

A pesar de su retirada temporal (entre 1990 y 2005 no estrenó ningún trabajo), Jane Fonda ganó 2 Oscars a la mejor actriz protagonista por "Klute" (1971) y "Coming Home" (1978). La intérprete fue nominada en cinco ocasiones más, la última de ellas en 1987. Fonda aparece este año en "Lee Daniels' The Butler" interpretando a la mismísima Nancy Reagan.

Lo que podemos esperar del top 10 del AFI: predicciones y estadísticas

Esta misma tarde el American Film Institute hará público el listado con sus diez producciones norteamericanas el 2012. La organización no da un premio a la mejor producción del año per se, pero no estar presente en este ranking es un beso de la muerte para las películas que quieran ganar el Oscar a la mejor película. En lo que llevamos de siglo sólo "The Departed" ha ganado el Oscar sin estar presente aquí ("The Artist" y "The King's Speech" no tenían posibilidades de entrar por no ser norteamericanas)

Si echamos un vistazo al pasado (cortesía de las muy útiles estadísticas de AwardsDaily) vemos que películas tan comerciales como "The 40 Year Old Virgin", "Bridesmaids", "Iron Man", "Happy Feet" o "Knocked Up" han sido seleccionadas. También hay hueco para el cine independiente, como deja claro la presencia de títulos como "Frozen River", "Sugar", "Wendy and Lucy" o "Before the Devil Knows You’re Dead". Por fortuna para los grandes estudios, 2012 ha sido un buen año y no parece que haga falta tirar del cine independiente para salvar el cine norteamericano de los último doce meses... pero nunca se sabe.
